Galantamine is a selective, competitive and rapidly reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase. It works by stimulating nicotinic receptors and increasing the sensitivity of the postsynaptic membrane to acetylcholine. It facilitates the transmission of excitation in the neuromuscular junction and restores neuromuscular conductivity in the case of its blockade by non-depolarizing muscle relaxants. Galantamine increases smooth muscle tone, increases the secretion of digestive and sweat glands, causes cramps. By increasing the activity of the cholinergic system, Galantamine improves cognitive function in patients with dementia related to Alzheimer's disease, but does not affect the development of the disease
